Now in its fourth generation, the Deimann family continues to operate the Romantik & Wellnesshotel Deimann in Schmallenberg-Winkhausen. Nestled in the stunning backdrop of the Hunau and Rothaar mountains, this exceptional five-star property has evolved from a 1880 manor house into a premier luxury destination—one that draws guests from the Ruhr region year after year. With the recently completed junior suites, the resort now features 109 rooms spread across its extensive grounds, three restaurants (including the Michelin-starred Hofstube Deimann), and a generous spa and wellness area.

Expansion and renovation have been integral to the hotel's 100-plus year legacy. This summer, the wellness area gained the new lake terraces, bringing the total to 4,700 m². Twenty-one junior suites have been added to the Sorpehaus wing through a collaboration between Schmallenberg-based architect Peter Walach and the Raumzenit planning office, directed by Martin Schürmann. These luminous rooms—each approximately 70 m² with balconies overlooking the grounds—exemplify contemporary elegance that transcends trends. The design palette draws directly from nature: abundant wood, soft greens and browns in upholstery and drapery subtly evoke the enchanting landscape beyond, creating a seamless visual connection. Oak parquet in a timeless herringbone pattern radiates warmth underfoot, while wood paneling adorns select walls. Gold-toned non-woven wallpapers accent other surfaces. Central gas fireplaces promise comfort and coziness, clad in locally quarried Fredeburg slate—a material prized for its exceptional quality and distinctive structure, which allows for impressively large-format cuts. Wall-spanning canvas prints depicting regional landscapes anchor the design in nearly every suite, creating striking focal points throughout.

Quality was paramount in furnishing these spaces—the proprietors invested especially in premium bedding. Every phase of the project, from conception through completion, was executed by regional craftsmen. The same commitment to local expertise extends to the bathroom furnishings, which feature bespoke saunas with infrared cabins and large-format porcelain stoneware tiles.
