Modern Indulgence
After a comprehensive redesign, the gourmet restaurant in Bottrop gleams with renewed elegance
When Zurheide Market first opened in Bottrop's Südringcenter 18 years ago, it featured a simple bistro designed for quick, casual dining. But over the years, something remarkable happened. Diners began to recognize the quality, freshness, and care that went into every dish—and the bistro evolved into a beloved gourmet destination. The original concept had outgrown its purpose. As part of a complete redesign of the market's entrance area, the bistro underwent a comprehensive transformation, emerging as Gourmet Restaurant Bottrop by Zurheide Feine Kost.
The shopfitting and lighting design specialists at AHA 360° have intentionally crafted a more intimate and exclusive dining experience. The once-open bistro now features an elegant 60-seat dining area, gracefully separated from the supermarket by a glass partition. Spread across 240 m², the space showcases numerous seating niches with refined leather chairs and benches, thoughtfully divided by glass elements where desired. A standout feature is the round table with upholstered armchairs—positioned boldly in the restaurant's center, yet offering ample privacy for diners. The dark, suspended ceiling with LED spotlights and spherical pendant lights provides sophisticated illumination that's neither overpowering nor insufficient. Integrated fresh food counters display appetizing products, while the open kitchen invites guests to watch chefs at work from most tables. The retained outdoor area accommodates around 25 guests and, thanks to its canopy, remains popular well beyond summer months. With its own entrance, the restaurant welcomes visitors independently of the supermarket's hours. Inside, classical and modern design elements blend seamlessly—the kind of refined sophistication you'd typically find in international destinations. Herringbone flooring brings timeless elegance, while contemporary touches—an airy chain curtain, botanical wallpaper, and the bar's mirrored backdrop—inject fresh, modern flair. Premium materials like blue velvet and luxurious leather furnishings create an atmosphere of quiet luxury throughout. "Lighting design was our primary focus," explains Michael Mayer, AHA 360° founder. "It needed to create an inviting ambiance while showcasing the products beautifully. We've layered indirect lighting, decorative fixtures, and LED technology to achieve a relaxed, welcoming environment."
