Modern and Functional

This minimalist pitched-roof home delivers spacious, comfortable living for the entire family.

A four-person family sought a modern, functional home that would sit naturally within Wellingsbüttel's verdant character—defined by stately villas and generous family residences—while standing out through distinctly contemporary architecture. Kai Steppan's design succeeds through disciplined lines, an open spatial flow, expansive glazing, and the thoughtful use of premium materials.

The clients prioritized a modern kitchen as the home's focal point, alongside clean lines and abundant natural light. Every detail—inside and out—reflects a meticulous coordination of high-quality materials and masterful execution. Narrow, elongated grey brick veneer animates the façade with textural depth while complementing the color-matched aluminum windows, downpipes, and gutters. Living spaces feature genuine hardwood parquet, while the contemporary bathrooms showcase exclusive fixtures. The gabled roof without overhang reinforces the building's minimalist aesthetic. Upon entry, a gallery floods the foyer with brightness and openness, while a glazed gas fireplace in the living room radiates intimate warmth. Sightlines have been carefully orchestrated to blur the boundary between interior and exterior, framing views of the surrounding landscape and amplifying the sense of spaciousness. A cantilevered wooden staircase with a glass balustrade serves as a striking sculptural accent. The architectural vision is completed through the refined interior design by Kristina Krause.

The central challenge lay in balancing the building's modern vocabulary with the development plan's rigorous constraints. Securing approval for both the overhang-free gable roof and dormers proved particularly demanding, requiring sustained patience and precision in planning. The result speaks for itself: a commanding union of minimalist architecture and luxurious interiors. An intelligent smart home system puts lighting, heating, and security entirely at residents' fingertips through mobile devices.
