Tailored to perfection

A custom-designed sanctuary where a family can truly thrive

A former bunker in Ottensen has been transformed into a residence. Studio Lisa Fardi was commissioned to craft the interior architecture, bathroom design, lighting plan, and bespoke furniture for one of the spacious apartments. Working closely with the developer, the interior designer created a concept that captures the family's vision and desires with precision. To provide a deliberate counterpoint to the bunker's imposing concrete shell—visible throughout the apartment—Fardi selected natural materials with warmth and tactile appeal: wood, stone, linoleum, and mineral-based wall finishes. Combined with the purist aesthetic of the custom-built cabinetry, thoughtful spatial planning, and carefully orchestrated lighting, Lisa Fardi created a home that feels both grounded and inviting. Open floor plans, light-filled surfaces, and an emphasis on essentials define the apartment.

The primary challenge: maximizing storage throughout the hallways without compromising their generous proportions. The solution came in the form of a monolithic built-in unit that runs continuously along the existing wall—even wrapping around corners—allowing it to recede visually within the space. Behind its clean lines lie technical systems, clothing, shoes, printer supplies, and cleaning essentials, all neatly concealed. To introduce the desired seating area at the entrance, a niche was strategically carved from the cabinetry, adding visual lightness to the corridor. A mirror positioned opposite further amplifies this sense of openness and space.

The bathroom design encompasses shower screens, tiled backsplashes, and custom vanities with mirrored cabinets. Every element speaks to refined material choices: engineered stone, lacquered solid wood, and mosaic tilework. Black fixtures, aluminum profiles, and carefully selected designer lighting and heating elements reinforce the design's restrained elegance.

The family's private rooms each feature custom-designed built-ins, beds, and desks created by Lisa Fardi. In the teenager's space, an illuminated wall shelf integrates seamlessly into the cabinetry to showcase treasured creative pieces. The younger child's room showcases one of the designer's signature creations: a wooden loft bed that serves multiple purposes—sleeping, playing, and relaxing—across two levels. Beyond its generous storage capacity, it delivers the perfect balance of practicality, comfort, and durability.
