Lighting Design with Added Value
Customized lighting solutions for a distinctive learning environment
The Frida Kahlo School in Schweich represents an exemplary new building designed for inclusive learning spaces—achieved in no small part through the carefully selected lighting solutions provided by Regiolux and Lichtwerk. The two-story structure by NAK Architekten creates an open, barrier-free spatial design that combines generosity, warm materials, and clear wayfinding. For children and young people with physical limitations, architecture becomes a tool for participation, and light emerges as a vital design element. Regiolux and Lichtwerk developed a sophisticated LED concept to address both functional and emotional requirements. In the classrooms, delicate light channels structure the space with uniform, glare-free illumination that supports diverse teaching methods. The new gymnasium plays a particularly important role, serving as both a sports and therapy space. With its robust, ball-impact-resistant housing and precision lens technology, Regiolux's hall luminaire delivers superior visual safety. Variable light distributions allow precise adjustment to movement patterns and hall geometry. Functional areas such as the school kitchen also benefit from specialized solutions: the luminaires meet strict hygiene standards and are easy to clean. This lighting concept demonstrates how architectural quality and technical precision can work in concert. From planning through installation, Regiolux and Lichtwerk guided the project, creating a cohesive system that strengthens learning environments pedagogically.
