Always One of a Kind

Kai Franke creates durable, custom furniture from steel, wood, and tile

Kai Franke is a passionate furniture maker and craftsman who founded the Franke Design label in Bochum in 2018. He has since relocated to Gelsenkirchen's Heßler district, where the label's first showroom is now under construction. In his workshop, Franke designs and crafts furniture that seamlessly combines steel, wood, and tile. Steel provides structural integrity and contemporary industrial aesthetics, wood introduces warmth and natural character, while tile offers versatility, longevity, and boundless design possibilities. His vision is to create enduring pieces that transcend current trends and stand the test of time—each one a true original. Franke also specializes in custom commissions, tailoring designs to meet his clients' specific needs.

Franke's collection includes a handcrafted table lamp defined by minimalist design and steel construction, available in multiple finishes. His bespoke blue dining table features a steel frame paired with a multiplex top clad in blue linoleum. But his true passion lies in reviving a forgotten design classic—the tile table. Franke has reimagined this timeless form, offering a curated selection of variations in different sizes and an extensive color palette. For those preferring understated elegance, he also combines raw steel with carefully selected woods to craft refined side tables and shelving systems.
