A Luminous Refuge
A semi-detached home transforms into a sanctuary for the whole family
Munich-based interior architect Gabriela Raible is known for intelligent spatial design, refined aesthetic language, and sophisticated contemporary lines. Her distinctive approach is evident throughout this project—a 220 m² semi-detached home in Bogenhausen designed for a young family with two children. Working with project manager Maren Böttcher, Raible collaborated with Munich architects Harder Groh Architekten on a house defined by floor-to-ceiling windows and a generous dormer. Together, they created a modern, thoughtfully curated interior with exceptional attention to detail—the kind of design one would describe as truly "sophisticated."
Despite the home's narrow footprint, you'd never know it. Through clever spatial planning and inventive sight lines, every area feels expansive and flooded with light—the ideal setting for modern, understated furnishings that transcend trends. The owners were clear about their priorities: maximizing openness and ease within a compact floor plan while integrating generous storage. Equally important was creating a warm, intimate living zone—which Raible achieved by anchoring the space around the fireplace. This sunken living area, connected by continuous light wooden flooring that flows from the entrance and crisp white open kitchen, creates a deliberate and inviting level change. A standout feature is the hallway's tunnel fireplace at ground level, which frames compelling sightlines across the living room and through to the garden beyond. The restrained palette of white and grey enhances the timeless simplicity of the design while maintaining an effortless quality. Grey fabric-wrapped wall panels serve double duty—absorbing sound for pleasant acoustics in the dining nook and behind the corner seating in the living room. Warm accents emerge through Bocchi's sculptural pendant lights hovering above the wooden dining table and the sea-blue upholstered chairs. Upstairs, the white and grey scheme persists with one standout detail: bespoke bedside tables in light wood, seamlessly integrated into the master bedroom walls.
