Functional and Sustainable
Alexander von Dombois creates furniture and accessories designed for everyday living.
From childhood, Alexander von Dombois has been drawn to traditional craftsmanship in all its forms. Pottery, goldsmithing, fly tying – the South African-born designer explored these passions from an early age. After training as a graphic designer, he pursued sustainable design at ecosign/Akademie für Gestaltung in Cologne. In 2020, von Dombois established his own label, alexandervondombois, in Ehrenfeld. Sustainability remains central to every design he creates. His vision is simple yet ambitious: to craft objects built to last generations – timeless pieces worthy of being passed down from one generation to the next.
Among his creations are Tünn & Schäl: a chair and table pair with refined proportions, crafted from sturdy beech or oak. Lightweight and stackable, they transition seamlessly from kitchen to brewery, café, or home office. Then there's Tritt, a compact stepladder with clean, understated lines – equally at home in the kitchen or workshop. The Dig garden tool set rounds out the collection: a trowel for repotting, a cultivator fork for loosening soil, and a utility knife for cutting roots. Its compact design works perfectly in beds and containers. The three tools hook together for convenient storage and hang via a practical loop – always ready for your next garden project.
