Graceful and Elegant

A villa that balances openness with privacy

The cubic form of the residence immediately captures the eye. Floating roofs emphasize the horizontal, while a roof cutout pairs with an elegant soffit detail that lends the structure a harmonious and graceful appearance. This solution allows the villa to present itself as a refined two-story volume from every angle, despite the upper floor occupying only three-quarters of the footprint below—a constraint imposed by building regulations that prohibited a full second story. While the street-facing facade remains closed, protecting the interior from view, the house opens generously toward the garden. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the verdant landscape from within, and covered terraces and balconies extend the living experience into the outdoors.

Budget constraints guided the choice toward white plaster, complemented sparingly by additional materials, such as at the garage. Yet this palette serves the villa well, reinforcing its clean lines and refined geometry—a visual promise of what unfolds within: clarity without severity, generosity without waste, openness balanced with privacy. This is precisely what the Stuttgart-based architecture firm delivered for their clients: a family home realized within a realistic budget. An expansive entry hall greets visitors whether they arrive through the front door or via the garage. The architects sought to foster an open atmosphere that remains inclusive yet offers retreat spaces and privacy. To achieve this, they orchestrated a deliberate spatial sequence: light-filled living rooms and the family kitchen open completely toward the terrace, extending into the garden and amplifying the sense of space. In summer, this threshold dissolves further as the terrace transforms into an expansive living area. All bedrooms occupy the upper floor, along with an additional terrace that provides privacy and is accessible to all family members via the gallery. The skillful manipulation of topography creates a courtyard that brings light to adjacent spaces. Connected via a half-story to the pool level, which itself sits a half-level below the main terrace, this interplay of elevations creates dynamic spatial experiences. The basement houses a study, guest room, and fitness area.

From the terrace, a few steps lead down to the sunken pool. Beyond offering beautiful views into the landscape, its placement exemplifies the thoughtful balance of openness and functional separation: children can enjoy the pool while parents relax on the terrace above. In this way, each family member can fully engage with their chosen space, all within the same garden.
