Building Better: Greater Transparency and Quality on the Job Site
App streamlines the sharing of documents and plans across the entire team
DUP (Documents and Plans) is an app that enables architects and civil engineers to share documents and plans across entire construction site teams—from subcontractors to project owners. The platform is backed by TRAUB Innovation, the brainchild of Ravensburg-based TRAUB Ingenieure. Architekten., an architectural firm drawing on more than 25 years of industry expertise.
Whether building residential homes or commercial and industrial projects, success hinges on how effectively and quickly plans can be executed. Overlooking fire safety codes or building specifications can create serious liability for both architects and building owners. This is why it's critical that all stakeholders access the same plans and receive instant notification of even the smallest revisions. DUP keeps architects in command while ensuring project partners and clients stay informed every step of the way. Yet despite advancing digitalization across industries, architects still rely on email to circulate updated plans and documents—a practice that easily leads to confusion on busy job sites, forcing project leads to invest considerable time tracking versions for everyone involved. DUP eliminates this friction: everyone working on-site has the latest version accessible on their phone, tablet, or computer at all times.
"Quality and safety are non-negotiable on any job site," says Holger Traub, founder of TRAUB Engineers. Architects. Seeking a way to keep his entire construction team synchronized on plans and documentation, the architect developed a digital solution that goes beyond traditional tools. "Plenty of digital platforms exist for collaboration between planners, project managers, and site supervisors, but access is often restricted to a select few. The result? Digitalization stops at the design phase." This gap inspired Traub to establish TRAUB Innovation, developing a purpose-built app that breaks down those silos. Today, his team at TRAUB Engineers. Architects. uses the platform across industrial and commercial projects, streamlining workflows, reducing delays, and elevating transparency and quality standards across all job sites. "Our project teams and clients genuinely appreciate the difference it makes," Traub notes. Security is built in—the server infrastructure is based in Germany—and the environmental benefits are clear: less paper, fewer printed plans. DUP demonstrates that smarter collaboration starts with removing barriers to information.
Greater transparency extends beyond the construction site into architecture and engineering offices too. When a colleague falls ill or takes vacation, others can seamlessly update documents in their absence. The DUP team prioritized making the app intuitive and linguistically accessible. Construction sites frequently employ workers with limited German proficiency, so the straightforward folder structure and self-explanatory icons ensure everyone stays informed, regardless of language barriers.
