Craftsmanship and Design
Kim Becker specializes in interior, product, and furniture design.
Furniture and products that make everyday life more comfortable and beautiful – that's the mission of Kim Becker. A trained craft designer and carpenter, she is deeply committed to merging craftsmanship with thoughtful design. In 2018, this Cologne-born designer launched her own studio in Ehrenfeld: handwerksdesign by kim becker. Her practice centers on interior, product, and furniture design, drawing from keen observation, responsiveness to context, and technical expertise. The result: furniture defined by functionality and creative expression, always tailored to meet her clients' precise needs.
Kim Becker's work has earned recognition across multiple design competitions, including nominations for the Manufactum State Prize for Crafts NRW (2021) and the Rosenberger Design Prize (2020). Her chair ikon won the furniture category at Designtalente NRW in 2020 – a three-dimensional interpretation of its own pictogram, crafted from steel and concrete. With beutel 2.0, she elevates an overlooked everyday object: instead of hiding it away, the bag becomes a decorative piece worthy of display. Move exemplifies her versatility – a hybrid that functions as both shelf and compact workspace. Constructed from matte lacquered panels and burnished steel, it transforms based on need: open as a secretary desk for active work, closed to keep materials neatly out of sight.
