In an industry where show flats are often little more than temporary backdrops, Just Architects has achieved a remarkable change of perspective: in the mainBuilding in Frankfurt, they were commissioned by Pimco Prime Real Estate to develop not a classic show flat, but a functional prototype – lively, durable and architecturally well thought-out. The result is an office that demonstrates what modern working environments can achieve – and is itself used productively.

Located at the heart of Frankfurt's banking district, mainBuilding bridges historical architecture with modern office culture. Nestled between the Alte Oper and Taunusanlage, this 37,000 m² property stands as an architectural benchmark for sustainable, urban workspaces—complete with premium specifications and DGNB Gold certification. Just Architects transformed the client's office into an open, distinctive model lounge that doubles as both showroom and functioning workspace. The vision goes beyond showcasing architecture; it's about living it. Here, prospective tenants encounter a work environment where practical functionality meets sophisticated design.

The redesign follows a precise colour and functional concept based on the client's corporate design. At its heart is the so-called brand zone: a central area in bold dark blue that acts as a spatial and visual backbone. This zone is deliberately permeable and connects the areas instead of separating them. It is flanked by communication zones in coordinated, calm tones. This creates natural walkways and an open atmosphere of togetherness.

Instead of a complete renovation, the Frankfurt architects added specific accents. This created new qualities in the core and communication zones: an open kitchenette with a lounge character – both a place to relax and a meeting point – promotes informal exchange; two think tanks enable concentrated work, while a generously glazed meeting room floods the entrance area with daylight. A continuous line of light intuitively leads to the reception area and draws the eye to the logo – subtle but effective. This model lounge is not a finished end product. It is intended as a starting point for further development, as a platform for new requirements. Just Architects demonstrate how the idea of dual use can give rise to a dynamic spatial concept – flexible, sustainable and identity-forming. The project is a plea for the potential of existing architecture: changeable, open and ready for the requirements of tomorrow.
