Two Become One

A logistics company consolidates its locations into a custom-designed office ecosystem

The logistics company DP World saw operating two separate offices across the same city as outdated. They decided to consolidate both locations into a single, modern workplace that would offer employees flexibility and contemporary design. That's where pro m², a Düsseldorf-based real estate service provider, came in. Jan Oelze, their project manager, explains: "Working closely with our client, we leveraged our full range of expertise—from comprehensive lease consulting and custom interior design to quality assurance and careful cost and timeline management from day one."

Container ports and waterway transport form the backbone of DP World's operations, making the new office space at Duisburg's inner harbour a natural fit. The company leased the entire 6th floor plus portions of the 4th floor in an established office building, creating 164 workstations across 3,700 m² over approximately eighteen months. Hannah Schulze from pro m² outlines the design challenges: "The interior concept draws from two distinct colour palettes. On one side, we have the subdued, industrial tones common throughout logistics—a deliberate contrast to DP World's bold, vibrant brand colours." This industrial aesthetic threads through the entire design: black metal frames paired with warm wood surfaces create understated workstations. Yet in the open communal zones, the design breaks free. Here, striking colours take centre stage—a luminous orange combined with the company's cobalt blue—creating visual energy. The concept also embraces flow, both as a nod to the company's guiding philosophy and its waterside location. In the work areas, carpeting in two tones flows in wave-like patterns, while pixelated blue tiles in the dining spaces add dynamic movement. Even the lighting echoes these curves, with expressive flexible tubes creating dramatic visual interest. Custom-designed joinery pieces inspired by shipping containers appear at the reception, seating areas, and the Work Café kitchenette, tying the narrative together. The result is a thoughtfully cohesive environment that has proven compelling enough to win over employees accustomed to traditional private offices. The modern workspace encompasses an informal presentation arena, variably sized meeting rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology, agile project rooms, a Work Café for breaks and flexible working, lounge zones, phone booths, and quiet retreat spaces.
