Timeless Harmony

A dermatology practice rooted in minimalist materials and strategic lighting

Stripped-back yet undeniably welcoming – that's the vision Dr. Max Tischler had for his skin and laser practice in Dortmund's Kaiserquartier. A colleague's recommendation led him to Plankontur, a Düsseldorf-based interior design firm. Founder and principal Dirk Pidun crafted a solution that transforms a modest footprint into a spacious-feeling environment while maintaining efficient circulation.

The tight spatial constraints demanded careful planning. Every function had to fit seamlessly into the compact layout, and several rooms lacked natural light. Pidun's solution divides the practice into two zones: the right side houses reception, waiting area, and consultation rooms, while treatment and laser facilities, plus the lab, occupy the left. The result is a refined, modern practice with genuine warmth. High-quality materials – cohesive and considered – create a calm, enduring aesthetic. Warm oak-toned vinyl flooring in a contemporary herringbone pattern anchors the spaces, complemented by soft grey walls. The reception desk stands out with its striking concrete finish while remaining perfectly integrated. Spanish designer chairs add visual intrigue with their refined forms.

Lighting design plays an equally crucial role. Strategically placed light sources highlight and define key zones – particularly noticeable at the reception area, where indirect ceiling and counter lighting creates a welcoming focal point. Direct accent lighting throughout further reinforces the practice's harmonious, aesthetically refined environment where patients feel genuinely at ease.
