An overlooked garden transformed into an inspiring retreat with a pool set against a stunning landscape

A sprawling garden with breathtaking views—yet the homeowners rarely ventured outside. Why? The space simply lacked any appeal or functionality. A complete transformation was in order. The vision was clear: make the garden the heart of the home during warmer months. The family wanted a pool and multiple relaxation zones, but integrating a large rectangular pool without disrupting the garden's proportions proved challenging. The key was to make it feel like a natural part of the landscape.

Jürgen Wragge's design team crafted a thoughtful solution that genuinely enhances how the family uses their space. Strategic new walls and a regraded slope make the garden feel larger. A stream feeds into a small pond adjacent to the pool—when the water feature switches off, the pond still holds water and maintains visual interest. A clever bridge separates the two elements, concealing the transition seamlessly. Naturally shaped stone slabs frame the pool's hard edges with softness. For these nature-conscious homeowners, premium natural materials were essential—evident in every detail, from the stream and pond to the diverse, pollinator-friendly plantings and subtle outdoor lighting.

A garden of this scale demands regular care, so Wragge's team visits monthly during the growing season—more often when needed. The redesign and coordination took roughly two and a half months to plan. Construction stalled initially due to pool supplier delays, but by June—just four months after work began in February—the homeowners were swimming and savoring those distant views. The garden is anything but neglected now.
