Where City Meets Nature

A Forward-Thinking Residential Quarter Shaping Contemporary Urban Development

In Cologne-Weiden, the "Wohnkomfort Weiden" development brings new life to a well-positioned neighborhood with 15 owner-occupied apartments. The residences range from approximately 67 m² to 145 m² and feature two to five rooms—perfectly suited for singles, couples, families, and aging in place with barrier-free accessibility. Every unit opens onto a private outdoor space: a balcony, loggia, or terrace that invites residents to escape and recharge.

The vision was clear: create a forward-thinking, sustainable residential community that enhances life in Weiden while weaving urban living with nature-inspired design. Constructed by Peters Bauträger, the building speaks through a refined architectural language—one defined by clarity and timelessness. Clean lines, a softly rendered façade, and restrained colour palettes characterize the modern form. Expansive glazing floods interiors with natural light, cultivating a welcoming atmosphere throughout. Thoughtfully articulated façade elements—projections, recesses, niches, and varied glass surfaces—create visual richness while sitting comfortably within the verdant landscape. The design marries functional precision with aesthetic refinement. The efficient, compact footprint maximizes the site's potential while preserving generous open areas that integrate seamlessly with surrounding greenery. Inside, residents enjoy premium finishes: continuous oak parquet flooring, radiant floor heating, and contemporary bathrooms. Sustainability and accessibility informed every design decision. Elevators serve all floors, and the generously lit stairwell—with expansive windows and a lift system—ensures barrier-free movement throughout. Private gardens, shared green spaces, balconies, and terraces foster community connection and provide tranquil settings for everyday living.

The underground garage accommodates 17 vehicles, with 37 bicycle spaces housed in the basement level. An air-to-water heat pump draws warmth from ambient air, while a rooftop photovoltaic array—installed over an extensively planted green roof—drives energy performance. Together, these measures achieve exceptionally low energy consumption, earning an A+ efficiency rating and Efficiency House 40 certification.
