Urban Walk Indoors

A flexible work space excels with an inviting interior concept

In the heart of Hamburg's old town, design-focused flex-office provider TOG (The Office Group) has opened a flexible work space. The "House at Domplatz" offers an alternative to the traditional office. Positioned midway between the UNESCO World Heritage Chilehaus and Hamburg's Town Hall, members and companies can now work flexibly across five floors and 3,506 m² of total space, grow successfully, regroup, and draw inspiration from Hamburg's rich architectural heritage. The interior design, executed in traditional Hamburg style with geometric tiles, glazed brickwork, and earth tones, was developed in collaboration with London-based architecture firm Stiff+Trevillion.

The design concept drew inspiration from the characteristic North German brick expressionism of the 1920s. "The raw surfaces of the clinker brick, the numerous ornaments, and the rich, natural color palette ranging from brown through red to violet are truly distinctive. We've integrated this vibrancy and individuality into our new workspace, giving the building an authentic Hamburg identity," explains Nasim Köerting, Head of Design at TOG. The welcoming workspace features customizable private offices, coworking areas, phone booths, meeting rooms, work alcoves, kitchens, showers, and a fitness studio. The designers placed particular emphasis on acoustics and optimal lighting at workstations—on the ground floor, for example, through a coffered ceiling construction with integrated brushed brass spotlights. They complemented this with a striking mosaic floor featuring geometric patterns in warm earth tones and natural materials including tiles, glazed brick, ceramic finishes, leather, brass, and wood. Additional decorative details appear in the delicate perforated pattern of the oak wood paneling behind the reception desk and in the wall installations. "Through the layered patterns and ornaments reflected in both the furnishings and the works of local artist cooperatives, the spaces tell Hamburg's architectural story. It's like a creative, inspiring city walk—just indoors," says Nasim Köerting. TOG already operates flexible workspaces at 52 locations, each individually designed, premium office buildings in prime locations with first-class amenities and services. In Germany, TOG has flexible workspaces in Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Berlin Mitte.
