New lighting concept emphasizes the architecture and creates an inviting ambience
The Hotel Domizil, located on the banks of the Neckar in Tübingen, comprises three existing buildings that were given a new interior design. The aim of the clients was to create a contemporary, cozy place that integrates into the existing architecture in the best possible way and can be used flexibly. The lighting was also to be redesigned to underline the architectural objectives and create a warm, friendly ambience for guests. In order to present the lobby and restaurant areas in the right light, the clients brought the Stuttgart-based planning office Schatz + Lichtdesign on board. They designed a comprehensive lighting concept for the zones in the twin buildings, which is already visible through the large window front. A new transparent cube, which houses the redesigned reception area and the hotel bar, is the central connecting element between the main buildings.
Simple lighting fixtures recessed into the ceiling provide a pleasant ambient brightness and set deliberate lighting accents with their optics. The central element of the lobby is an impressive pendant luminaire that is partially recessed into the ceiling. The luminaire zones the relaxation area in front of the open fireplace and at the same time provides uniform, warm lighting. Flexibly mounted surface-mounted luminaires and recessed wallwashers illuminate the vertical surfaces and follow the interior design created by Dittel Architekten. The proximity to the water is reflected in individual decorative luminaires. Mouth-blown glass bodies, mounted on a natural-fiber ship's rope, reinforce the transparency of the room and the open atmosphere. A filigree "light rod" rounds off the overall picture of the reading corner next to the entrance area. The adjoining, open restaurant and breakfast area appears bright and friendly thanks to the daylight. In the evening, focused, technically decorative lighting fixtures contribute to a calm atmosphere.
In addition, all circulation zones were given a new lighting concept. As there are no daylight openings in the introverted areas, artificial light plays a decisive role here. Linear light profiles follow the architectural language and illuminate the corridor areas evenly. Extremely narrow-beam spotlights create dominant cones of light and guide visitors through the core of the building. The varied illumination provides high-contrast lighting and creates a high quality of stay.
All areas were planned with energy-efficient LED lighting. A lighting control system also helps to save energy and regulates pre-programmed lighting scenes depending on the time of day.
