CUBE: Your company champions high-quality architecture at fixed prices. What's the philosophy behind it?

Sebastian Blome: We unite passionate design with accomplished craftsmanship. Following Walter Gropius's Bauhaus ideals, we treat architects and craftsmen as one team: at blomearchitektur, visionary design works hand-in-hand with rigorous project management. Our clients experience the full benefit – a seamless building process unhindered by the traditional divide between design office and construction firm. We extend our architectural expertise through a curated network of interior and exterior designers. Throughout every project, we honor two core commitments: "We keep our promises" and "Our principals work on your project." This means constant partnership with you, from your first vision through to the moment you receive your finished, one-of-a-kind home.

We specialize in planning and building bespoke architect-designed homes – delivered as complete, turnkey projects of exceptional quality. These aren't limited to new construction. A thoughtful renovation can often achieve far more than simply meeting energy codes. The same applies to façade refurbishment and comprehensive house renovation, where our interior designers become essential partners. Like our architects, they seek out the unconventional and uncover what makes a space truly distinctive. This philosophy extends to sensitive building extensions – an increasingly vital approach to future-oriented construction.

What truly sets blomearchitektur homes apart?

Oliver Blome: Every building we design and construct reflects our client's vision of individuality. That's why our established network – architects, interior designers, visualizers, site managers, lighting specialists, landscape architects, and garden designers, plus energy consultants and smart home experts when needed – is engaged from the earliest planning stages. Together, we craft the perfect balance between striking design and genuine comfort.

We believe planning and execution must maintain equal excellence throughout. Our project management begins with the fundamentals: a thorough site analysis that informs either a custom design responding to the land's unique character, or guidance in selecting the perfect plot for your vision. We examine every aspect with care, ensuring the design honors the site's individual qualities. Your home becomes a signature piece – a striking expression of your taste that enriches its surroundings. We invest whatever time is needed to get it right, creating design highlights you'll treasure from the moment planning concludes.

Where does sustainability stand in your building practice?

Ecology, economy, design vision, and individuality – these four elements drive everything we do, enabling truly integrated sustainable architecture. For us, sustainability means enduring value across every dimension. Our homes transcend fleeting trends, combining timeless design principles with your personal aesthetic – homes meant to be cherished for decades. Sustainability reaches far beyond appealing surfaces; we believe buildings must perform at their best environmentally and economically. We're committed to minimizing non-sustainable materials throughout. For years, we've replaced mineral wool insulation with blown wood fiber – equally effective, fully recyclable, and beautifully aligned with natural building principles.

Climate adaptation is woven into our planning process as standard practice. We address heat management, shading strategies, material selection, energy efficiency – and extend this thinking to your outdoor spaces, which must evolve with changing conditions too. You remain fully informed at every step as we design precisely the energy performance you want. We always meet or exceed legal building energy standards. If you envision smart home technology or sustainable energy sources like solar or geothermal systems, our network specialists collaborate to integrate these solutions elegantly into your home's architecture. We also guide you through the economic dimension: identifying grants and subsidies – such as federal efficiency building programs – that can substantially reduce your investment.

We approach every aspect of building with foresight, equipping you to meet climate challenges effectively. Building "brick by brick" using time-honored German craftsmanship – without relying on opaque subcontracting chains. When we build your home, we know our materials' origins and our tradespeople personally. We source regionally, minimize our projects' ecological footprint, and reduce embodied carbon through short transportation routes and local partnerships.

You offer everything from traditional gabled houses and elegant city villas to modern Bauhaus designs. Which style is capturing Hamburg's builders' imaginations right now?

We're witnessing strong renewed interest in classical architecture—think modern interpretations of traditional coffeemills and gabled homes, as well as contemporary and classical city villas. While Bauhaus receives considerable attention, it's not currently dominant.

What's your personal preference when it comes to architectural style?

Classic traditional architecture and Bauhaus—both capture my imagination.
