"Making two into one" was the guiding principle for transforming this townhouse in Düsseldorf-Benrath. Two adjoining flats were unified into a single 200 m² living space, offering ample room to accommodate the family's lifestyle and needs. The renovation called for a generous living and dining area, along with an elegantly appointed master suite featuring a bedroom, walk-in closet, and spa bathroom with sauna—all distinguished by meticulous craftsmanship and refined detailing.

The Düsseldorf architects Rehberg + Milesevic oversaw a complete gutting of both units and structurally sound reconnection. All electrical and plumbing systems were replaced from scratch, as were the interior doors, each featuring horizontal muntins to echo the window design. The spatial layout was entirely reimagined. Every room received premium herringbone oak parquet flooring, elegantly bordered by brushed stainless steel trim. For window sills, kitchen countertops, and vanities, the team selected Lindlaer Grauwacke—a locally sourced natural stone distinguished by its subtle grain, lending both sophistication and understated monochromatic elegance. Soft wallpapers and wall finishes grace every room, while an integrated sound system discreetly serves the entire apartment. Thoughtfully orchestrated lighting design showcases the material-restrained interior, transforming each space into something special. The living room's custom-crafted oak-backed floating shelf becomes a striking focal point that seems to dematerialize under accent lighting. Across from it, a robust sandstone feature wall creates a compelling visual tension.

The expansive owners' suite encompasses a master bedroom, sauna, and luxurious spa bathroom. A shower and freestanding soaking tub are positioned in private alcoves between the sauna and vanity for maximum convenience. Spacious porcelain tiles line the wet areas. The generous bedroom flows seamlessly into a walk-in dressing room—all crafted entirely from oak by Düsseldorf's distinguished joinery studio Joisten & Böhm. An impressive floor-to-ceiling paneled headboard anchors the bed as a sculptural centerpiece. The entire renovation took a year to plan and five months to execute.
