Where the club's soul comes alive
Award-winning exhibition celebrating FC Bayern's storied history
FC Bayern Munich divides football fans like few clubs can: passionate devotees on one side, fierce critics on the other. Yet most people know little about the club's complete story. The FC Bayern Erlebniswelt at the Allianz Arena changes that, offering visitors an immersive journey through the club's history since its 1900 founding. Designed as an emotional and identity-driven experience, the exhibition unfolds across three distinct areas. Chronological zones weave historical narratives together, while the Hall of Fame spotlights legendary football personalities. A third section celebrates the passionate fan culture that defines the club. Taken as a whole, the exhibition reveals the very soul of Bayern Munich. Rotating special exhibitions complement the permanent collection, which is continuously refined. Conceived and designed by Ranger Design, the museum has become one of Munich's five most-visited institutions, welcoming over 350,000 guests annually.
Beyond exploring these three main sections, visitors can test their reflexes with an interactive, life-size goalkeeper challenge. On the "pitch," two or more players can compete and collaborate on a miniature football field. Younger guests can discover the Berni House, complete with a slide and treasure chamber. The space also accommodates special exhibitions, celebrations, and corporate presentations.
The museum has transcended its role as a public success story, becoming a powerful catalyst for FC Bayern's identity while democratizing knowledge about the club. Visitor enthusiasm radiates throughout the space. Much of this energy draws from the club's own magnetism, yet reviews consistently express genuine surprise at the museum's exceptional quality. Gerhard Matzig called it a "model museum" in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. In the magazine "11 Freunde," critic Christoph Seidl shares the observations of a Norwegian visitor—a seasoned stadium-hopper who intended only to see the Allianz Arena: "This exceeds everything I've seen. In Barcelona, trophies sit behind glass cases. Here in Munich, I feel the soul of the club." The FC Bayern Museum earned the prestigious German Design Award in 2020.
