Forward-thinking
A defining characteristic is the continuous band of exposed concrete that runs as a wall and ceiling element from the ground floor to the roof.
The young company jumo quickly realized an ambitious dream: their own corporate headquarters. In 2015, these dedicated specialists in retail, exhibition, and interior construction founded their company in Ohligs. After two successful years, however, the journey continued. The nearby Südpark in Solingen proved to be the perfect location for this next step. The expansive grounds around the former Solingen Süd railway station have developed into a vibrant creative district over recent years. Jumo set out to shape the location and contribute a modern, contemporary, and open design to the area. The result is a geometrically refined cube, realized by PlanBar Architektur from Cologne in their role as general planner.
Thanks to its materiality and formal language, this three-story structure with its high-contrast facade composition of concrete and wood meets all demands and integrates itself harmoniously yet distinctly into its surroundings. A defining characteristic is the continuous band of exposed concrete that runs as a wall and ceiling element from the ground floor to the roof. Between these, horizontal timber louvers and expansive anthracite-colored aluminum windows define the external appearance. Particular emphasis was also placed on a long, narrow balcony offering views into and across the canopies. This is where employees can come together during breaks and meetings in a balanced, nature-inspired work atmosphere—a concept envisioned by both the client and architect.
The interior design concept centered on a single principle: "Forward-thinking work environments without enclosed spaces." The open office landscape, divided into open office areas, meeting zones, and eat & meet spaces, provides 25 workstations for employees. The material and color palette of the facade continues throughout the interior. Walls and ceilings feature exposed concrete combined with acoustic panels of timber louvers. Circular pendant lights create dynamic accents, while individual armchairs, chairs, and carpets provide colorful focal points—together creating a fresh, harmonious aesthetic that delivers exceptional spatial quality and unifies the modern, youthful office into a cohesive whole.
