Escape to Paradise

A Munich office transformed into a destination – thanks to thoughtful interior design

California lifestyle in the office – and a Munich communications agency is leading the way. Since 2009, BSKOM has created distinctive campaigns for companies, clinics, and healthcare initiatives. So when it came time to design the interior for their new offices on Sendlinger Straße, there was only one choice: make it equally extraordinary. Interior designer Sabrina Berger seized the moment with a clear vision: craft a bright, inspiring space radiating positive energy – one that feels international and delightfully unconventional.

"The light-filled space with its expansive industrial windows, housed in a 1830 heritage-listed brewery building, provided the perfect foundation for a concept centered around the legendary light and the color and design language of California," she explains. With her design, she deliberately created a counterpoint to typical New Work offices, which she often finds to be cold, contrived, and interchangeable. Instead, she conceived a warm and distinctive space that remains highly functional: featuring vintage furniture and lighting fixtures, organically shaped desks that enable ergonomic work while serving as stylish design elements. The concept also incorporated exceptional acoustic elements: wall tapestries with retro-style Energy Stripes, developed in collaboration with the BSKOM creative team, were executed by Munich-based artist Silvie Penelope Schmidt using spray technique. The color palette brings together soft pastels and vibrant hues that create positive energy and foster creative collaboration. The flooring, made from limed oak parquet with its sand-like aesthetic, complements the California-inspired color world perfectly.

The glass walls of the executive office feature a colour-shifting film that transforms with the light – reinterpreting California's spectrum throughout the day and creating a stunning video call backdrop that carries the vibe beyond the office. The meeting room channels Palm Springs: complete with a swimming pool mural, spray-painted palm shadows, and a living cactus garden. Employees gravitate toward the open kitchen's bistro area and the inviting seating islands with vintage Togo sofas. "The light, breezy approach has genuinely shifted the team's energy, collaboration, and communication," notes Managing Director Eva Birle. The effect? Staff now choose to work in the office most days – even though they have the flexibility to work remotely. That's the power of a space that feels like an escape.
