Maria Cepissakova was practically born with a love of art and craftsmanship. Born in Košice, Slovakia, she spent a lot of time as a child in her father's studio and in her grandfather's woodcarving workshop. From 2000 to 2004, she studied ceramics and porcelain at the School of Applied Arts in Košice. In 2005, she went on to study fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Since 2013, Cepissakova has been working as a freelance artist with her own studio in Munich's Westend district. Her focus is on combining traditional craftsmanship with a free sculptural approach. Unique porcelain pieces are created in her studio: the material is first turned by hand and then individually processed in several steps. Deliberate shaping and lively contrasts give the products their very own effect. One example of her work is the Kontrapunkt Pur series. The various cups and vases are available in three colors: pure white, solid blue or solid black. Inside, the pieces are transparent glazed. In contrast, the designer's objects are very experimental: different clay and porcelain masses are applied on top of each other and colored in their raw state. This means that the result can only ever be guessed at after firing at a very high temperature. In addition to utility ceramics and objects, the designer also creates ceramic jewelry and reliefs. She also combines the traditional craft of throwing with a sculptural approach. Maria Cepissakova regularly runs ceramic workshops in her studio.
