Graceful and elegant
A villa combines openness and privacy
The cubic shape of the residential building immediately catches the eye. Floating roofs also emphasize the horizontal and the roof incision connects with a cloud bow, which makes the building look harmonious and graceful. Thanks to this solution, the villa presents itself from every side as a two-storey, elegant structure, although only three quarters of the area below serves as living space, as the upper floor was not allowed to be a full storey for building regulations reasons. And while the side facing the street is closed off and protected from view, the house opens up towards the garden. Not only do floor-to-ceiling windows provide a view of the greenery from inside, covered terraces and balconies also provide space for outdoor living.
For budget reasons, the choice fell on white plaster, which is supplemented in a few places by another material, such as on the garage. However, the white suits the villa and its clear, unadorned shapes and lines: from the outside, it hints at what will continue inside: Clarity without austerity, generosity without wasting space, as well as openness and privacy. And it is what the client wanted from the Stuttgart-based architectural firm: a home for a family that was built within a realistic budget. A spacious entrance hall welcomes visitors as they enter the villa through both the front door and the garage. The aim was to create an open atmosphere that does not exclude, but still provides opportunities for retreat and privacy. The architects planned an appropriate spatial dramaturgy for this purpose: The light-flooded living rooms and the family kitchen are completely open to the terrace and incorporate the garden. In this way, the space is enlarged towards the outside. This expands in summer when the terrace becomes a large living area. All bedrooms are located on the upper floor, as is another terrace, which offers privacy and is accessible to all family members from the gallery. Clever use of the topography has created a courtyard that illuminates the adjoining rooms. It is connected to the pool level via half a storey, which in turn is half a storey offset from the terrace in front of the living level. Finally, the basement houses the study, guest room and fitness room.
From the terrace, a few steps lead down to the slightly lower pool. From here, you not only have a beautiful view of nature, but the location also reflects the clever concept of openness and separation of use: for example, the children can enjoy the pool while the parents use the terrace. In this way, everyone can have fun undisturbed and still be in the same garden.
