Individual design objects
Not only lamps are made from wood offcuts - tables, stools, chopping boards and a bed are also part of the team's product family.
It all started with lights. In 2013, Dennis Disterheft, architect and designer, founded the Verschnitt manufactory together with master carpenter Richard Sasse. Since then, not only lights have been created from wood offcuts from the family's own sawmill in Saxony-Anhalt - tables, stools, chopping boards and a bed are also part of the team's product family. All products are made by hand and produced in small quantities. Each one is unique: worm damage, wood defects, small cracks and knotholes characterize the design. Every year, the timber industry produces around 10 million tons of wood that is no longer suitable for use as beams, planks or slats and can no longer be used in furniture making. A small proportion of this waste wood does not end up as firewood, but is given a new life as an individual design object.
The furniture created in the manufactory in Spandau includes triangular stools: minimalist stools made of oak wood, combined with hand-forged hairpin legs made of black-coated round steel. The seat is slightly curved, which makes it comfortable to sit in a slight hollow. The triangular shape relieves pressure on the thighs when sitting, as the feet are free to rest on the floor without pressure. Albatros is a minimalist pendant lamp. Its special feature is its symmetry: the wings are lowered by 45 degrees and taper towards the bottom. Albatros is suitable both individually and in a swarm for illuminating dining tables, workstations, sideboards and chests of drawers.
