New building in a residential area enhances its surroundings
The Holzhausen district is one of Frankfurt's most popular residential areas. It is quiet, green and boasts a historic park with a pond and moated castle. Well-known architects such as Ernst May, Friedrich Pützer and Franz Roeckle built here. The building by B & V Architekten now stands out discreetly from the dignified buildings around Frauensteinplatz and enhances the surroundings, which are characterized by classical modernism and Wilhelminian-style villas.
Like a striking cornerstone, the new building with its two-sided orientation fills the gap on Frauensteinplatz and forms a counterpart to the corner buildings on the southern edge of the square. The volume and height of the building are integrated into the existing structure, while the shape of the façade follows an independent interpretation of openness and unity. Like a polished boulder, the façades and roof surfaces form a uniform cladding of Altenburg limestone, whose banded structure provides particularly attractive façade accents. The folded roof surfaces, covered with natural stone, emphasize the monolithic, sculptural cubature of the villa and create exciting lighting moods on all floors with different incisions and flush-fitting skylights. The large panoramic windows in the natural stone façades, which are also flush with the surface, appear like picture frames, allowing charming views of the Frankfurt skyline and the green, historic neighborhood. As they are kept in the same color scheme, the windows complement the color mood of the façade. The anodized shade is also reflected in the letterbox and fence system, which, thanks to the angled flat steel bars, both prevents and allows views into the garden, thus creating a successful boundary to the property.
Inside the Findling, living rooms and bedrooms with attractive terrace areas extend over four levels. A glass elevator connects all floors with their open floor plans. A special highlight is the "water room" in the basement with its naturally lit exercise pool via a horizontal strip light.
