A Love Letter to Frankfurt
Photographer Alex Habermehl offers his intimate perspective on Germany's banking metropolis
Alex Habermehl grew up surrounded by photography: his father's career behind the lens inspired him to pursue the same path. After completing his schooling, the Frankfurt native apprenticed as a photographer, finishing his three-year training in 2000. Ever since, he's been creating work primarily for corporations and creative agencies.
In 2008, driven by his passion for his native Frankfurt, Alex Habermehl launched "Frankfurter Bubb," an art project and visual label. He felt the city's reputation had become unfairly tarnished—new perspectives were needed. His mission: to present his own authentic vision of Frankfurt, stripped of stereotypes and prejudice. The result was a collection of deeply personal photographs that resonated with audiences precisely because they capture the places where memories are made—childhood neighborhoods, chance encounters with love, everyday corners of home. For many who've left Frankfurt, these images become keepsakes: tangible connections to the city they've carried away. The "Frankfurter Bubb" collection spans diverse subjects: downtown vistas, the historic station district, neighborhood character studies, iconic Frankfurt landmarks, and vibrant street art. The Museum of Modern Art naturally has its place. And what would Frankfurt be without Eintracht and its beloved apple wine taverns? Each square photograph—available in sizes from 10 x 10 cm to 100 x 100 cm—is mounted on substantial wooden blocks, either as individual pieces or as cohesive series.
