Architecture with Clear Lines

Timeless in design, precise in execution, and thoughtfully conceived – both inside and out

Nestled in an established residential neighbourhood, this striking detached home was designed by architects Engelshove Bau for a family of four. Its strength lies in clarity—geometric forms paired with a restrained material palette that ensures timeless appeal. The façade's narrow grey clinker bricks create visual depth through their fine joinery and subtle colour variation, while deliberately chosen as a durable, sustainable material that reinforces the house's distinctly monolithic character.

Set on a 770 m² plot, this residence offers 337 m² of living space. The generously proportioned interior unfolds across multiple levels, each with a distinct purpose. Open, inviting living zones flow seamlessly into private retreats. Here, architecture speaks through restraint. Rather than pursuing visual drama, it draws its strength from harmonious proportions, clean lines, and the interplay of light. Expansive glazing strategically frames views of the landscape and dissolves boundaries between interior and exterior—terraces and courtyards become natural extensions of the home. Inside and outside engage in dialogue; the house responds to its context without asserting itself. It belongs naturally to the neighborhood, yet remains distinctly exceptional. This same disciplined approach guides the interior. Spaces unfold with an open, flowing logic, reduced intentionally to their essence. The generous living area anchors the home. Floor-to-ceiling windows open it entirely to the garden, creating a sense of infinite space and weightlessness. Warm wood, natural stone, and refined plaster surfaces establish the material palette—tactile, honest materials that radiate comfort while maintaining a serene elegance. Technology and storage vanish discreetly into the background, preserving the purity of each space. Light functions not as decoration, but as direction. Skylights, carefully considered shading, and precisely positioned windows choreograph the changing moods throughout the day. A KNX control system orchestrates intelligent lighting, shading, and climate management across the entire residence. Paired with a deep borehole heat pump, a ventilation system achieving 95% heat recovery, and a photovoltaic array with integrated battery storage, the building operates nearly energy-independently—a resolute commitment to sustainability and efficiency. The spa and bathing area showcases this philosophy at its most refined. An integrated sauna serves as the heart of this private sanctuary, cradled in natural materials, soft light, and muted tones. Rather than expansive windows, thoughtfully positioned openings and light bands create an intimate, protected refuge. The sauna integrates seamlessly into the overall composition, embodying the house's core principle: true comfort emerges not from excess, but from precision in detail. Warm wood, stone-textured tiles, and subtle indirect lighting craft an atmosphere reminiscent of an exclusive spa retreat—authentic, never contrived. Here, functional spaces transcend their purpose and touch the soul, when they're conceived with the same architectural rigor as every other element of the home.

The landscape design extends this vision seamlessly. Garden, terraces, and pool area embrace the home's decisive aesthetic vocabulary. Precise geometry, material coherence, and carefully composed sight lines weave architecture and landscape into one harmonious composition—a sanctuary that speaks of quiet sophistication while inviting everyday outdoor living.
