Double Gold in NRW

The 2024 NRW Architecture Prize Winners Are In

For the ninth consecutive year, the Association of German Architects (BDA NRW) has celebrated outstanding examples of building culture, honouring architects, urban planners, and their clients. At a prestigious ceremony in Düsseldorf in early September, ten projects—selected by an expert jury from 43 qualified candidates—received the award. These candidates had advanced through rigorous regional BDA selection processes across North Rhine-Westphalia. In total, around 300 projects competed in this two-stage selection process. From the ten award winners, the BDA NRW membership then cast ballots to determine the NRW Architecture Prize in Gold. In a remarkable tie, two projects emerged as joint victors—one in Mülheim an der Ruhr and one in Duisburg:

- Replacement Airship Hangar WDL (Smyk Fischer Architects for Westdeutsche Luftwerbung Th. Wüllenkemper GmbH & Co. KG)
- MKM Museum Küppersmühle Extension (Herzog & de Meuron for the MKM Foundation, Ströher Family)

All ten award recipients have been nominated by the BDA North Rhine-Westphalia Regional Association to compete for the NIKE Architecture Prize, a prestigious honour bestowed by the BDA Federal Association once every five years.

Additional Award Winners:

- Miteinander im Wiesental (office03 // Waldmann and Jungblut Architects for Ko-Operativ eG NRW)
