Too Hot – Hot Cities, New Directions
Exhibition at the German Architecture Museum (DAM)
Climate change is making cities increasingly hot – with noticeable consequences. Heat, drought, water shortages and flooding highlight just how urgently urban spaces need to be rethought and redesigned. As cities account for the largest share of CO₂ emissions, they bear a particular responsibility, for example when it comes to transforming infrastructure and public spaces. Many of them aim to become climate-neutral within the next fifteen years. What does this mean for the future – for planning, architecture and city life?
‘Too Hot’ showcases examples from thirteen European cities across a range of climates, from small towns to major cities. They are responding to the climate crisis with concrete measures for climate protection and adaptation, including completed projects, strategic planning and civil society initiatives. The exhibition illustrates the diverse forms this transformation can take and the social issues and socio-political discourses that accompany it. “Too Hot” is aimed at urban residents of all ages, local decision-makers, specialists in the field and an international audience.
