Aukett + Heese named ‘BIM Champion 2026’
Recognition in the category ‘From planning to sustainable operation’
The Berlin-based architecture and planning firm Aukett + Heese has been awarded the title of “BIM Champion 2026” in the category “From Planning to Sustainable Operation”. This makes the firm one of the three winners in this category of the buildingSMART Germany competition. The firm was recognised for its contribution to the Siemensstadt Square – Module C1.1 project. The jury particularly commended the consistently implemented BIM process throughout the entire project lifecycle – from planning through to subsequent operation. They highlighted the high complexity of the project, the collaborative working between all parties involved, and the consistently cooperative project culture within the integrated project management (IPA) framework.
Siemensstadt Square is set to become one of Europe’s most significant urban development projects in Berlin. On the historic Siemens site, Siemens AG is developing a forward-looking urban quarter that combines work, research, production and public amenities. Within the first development phase, Aukett + Heese is responsible for the building design of a high-rise and an atrium building constructed using a hybrid timber structure. The project is being realised as part of an integrated project delivery (IPD) process. From the early planning stages, architects, specialist planners, the client and contractors are working together on the basis of a shared digital model. The BIM process serves not only for planning and coordination, but also forms the basis for the subsequent sustainable operation of the building. At the same time, sustainability and life-cycle assessment data become an integral part of the digital workflow. This creates a robust foundation for resource-efficient decisions and long-term sustainable building operation right from the early planning stages.
“Being named BIM Champion 2026 is a special recognition of our approach to consistently integrating architecture, technology and operations,” says Max Reder, a member of the management team at Aukett + Heese and responsible for the Siemensstadt Square Module C1.1 project. “The consistent application of the BIM method has made it possible to transparently bring together complex requirements relating to planning, use and operation at an early stage. Particularly in a project of this scale, quality is achieved above all through collaboration, digital processes and a shared understanding across the entire life cycle of the building.” With this award, Aukett + Heese underscores its commitment to viewing digital planning methods not merely as a technological tool, but as an integral part of a sustainable planning culture. Siemensstadt Square stands as a prime example of a new generation of collaborative large-scale projects.
