"Technology That Inspires!"
Hamburg Timber Construction Forum – January 15
"Technology That Inspires!" – this is the guiding theme for the Hamburg Timber Construction Forum taking place Wednesday, January 15, at the Free Academy of Arts Hamburg. Innovative and successful timber construction demands robust technical expertise. The breakthroughs that have brought us to timber high-rise buildings in recent years – and will continue pushing boundaries toward new materials like straw and clay – require open dialogue with current developments in science, engineering, and pioneering projects.
Technical precision meets real-world challenges: multi-storey timber structures behave differently dynamically than traditional buildings. Building near major roads and railway lines requires special consideration. Henning Klattenhoff of Assmann Beraten + Planen shares findings from a major research initiative addressing these concerns.
Forward-thinking often means returning to tradition: in recent years, clay and straw have reemerged alongside timber as essential natural building materials. Architect and carpenter Dirk Scharmer of Deltagrün Architektur brings deep expertise in these materials and showcases two new four-storey residential buildings in Lüneburg built using a wood-straw-clay hybrid system.
