polis Awards 2024
The 24 winners in eight categories
Presented annually at the polis Convention—Germany's premier trade fair for urban and project development in Düsseldorf—the polis AWARD has become a nationally recognized hallmark of excellence. Each year, it honors projects that transcend their economic scope to create meaningful value for the public realm. This year's competition expanded to eight categories, introducing "Phase Zero – Catalysts for Change" for the first time, a category dedicated to exploratory, informal planning processes and tools. Under the leadership of Reiner Nagel, CEO of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture, the jury selected three winners across all eight categories from 170 submissions.
Among this year's winners are the Vision Space on the former METRO site in Düsseldorf (First Prize, Phase Zero – Catalysts for Change), Überseeinsel in Bremen (First Prize, Urban Land Management), and Jupiter's open plaza in Hamburg's city center (First Prize, Revitalized Centers). Also honored are Berlin's Schreibfederhöfe (First Prize, Intelligent Infill Development) and the reimagined Gänsmarkt in Bad Mergentheim (First Prize, Public Spaces).
