O.M. Ungers – Architecture as an Idea

Exhibition at the Museum of Applied Arts

The year 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Oswald Mathias Ungers (1926–2007). As an architect, theorist and university lecturer, he had a significant international influence on architecture in the second half of the 20th century.

From 21 May to 27 September, the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne (MAKK) is presenting the exhibition ‘O.M. Ungers 100 – Architecture as an Idea’. The exhibition brings his thinking to life through models, drawings, photographs and archival documents. The exhibition illustrates his consistent view of architecture as an intellectual design process that is interdisciplinary and linked to other arts.
