Nike 2025: Award winners honoured
BDA Architecture Prize awarded
The jury of the BDA Architecture Prize Nike 2025 has recognized six contemporary projects and one classic building with a "Nike" award. The winners were celebrated in Erfurt on September 11th. Presented every three years, this is the BDA's highest architecture prize, based on nominations from its regional associations, which typically nominate award-winning projects from their own competitions for the "Nike." This process brings these outstanding works into the national spotlight. The following projects received a Nike award in Erfurt:
Nike for activation
Luise 19E, Werder (Havel)
Architecture: undjurekbrüggen, Berlin
Client: Uferwerk eG, Werder (Havel) "This project demonstrates on a small scale how architecture can sparkle and inspire when all those involved work together with commitment and a common goal. The jury also sees the project as a subtle continuation of the widespread use of garage facilities as social venues in everyday life in the GDR."
Nike for social engagement
Spore Initiative & Publix Foundation Ensemble, Berlin
Architecture: AFF Architects, Berlin
Client: Schöpflin Foundation, Lörrach "The jury also commends the subtle integration of the listed Tempelhof Airport beacon mast and the (relocated) historic cemetery gate, which have been naturally incorporated as 'spolia' of local history."
Nike for Education
Student Centre at TU Braunschweig
Architecture: Gustav Düsing & Max Hacke GbR, Berlin
Client: Technical University of Braunschweig, Building Management "The jury considers the reduction in materials used to be a major strength of this fresh and natural-looking architecture. The concept has been confirmed by its continued popularity with the public in everyday use."
Nike for social intervention
Café Leo, Berlin
Architecture: sophie & hans, Berlin
Client: Wendepunkt gGmbH, Berlin "The jury appreciates that the small, fragile building is still in excellent condition after three years of use. Generous glazing on all sides prevents any dark rear sides from forming."
Nike for handling inventory
Campus Kindergarten – Conversion of a telephone exchange in Merseburg
Architecture: Aline Hielscher Architektur, Leipzig
Client: Studentenwerk Halle "The jury commends the surprisingly natural transformation of a remarkable everyday building from the GDR era. The new use is also reflected in the colour scheme, which demonstrates a subtle creative vision."
Nike for living
Johanniterzentrum Andreasgärten, Erfurt
Architecture: Heine Mildner Architects BDA | Dorschner Kahl Architects | Simonsen Freianlagen
Client: Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e. V., Saxony-Anhalt/Thuringia Regional Association"The jury particularly appreciates the wooden pergolas running around both sides as a defining feature of the ensemble. The cleverly offset floor plans allow for 'open-plan living' on both sides of the building."
Classic Nike
Cologne University of Music and Dance (1969–1977)
Architecture: Werkgruppe 7 and Bauturm, Cologne (Erich Schneider-Wessling, Peter Busmann, Heiner P. Hachenberg, Jürgen G. Pahl, Walter Ruoff, Peter Trint, Erwin H. Zander)
Client: State of North Rhine-Westphalia, State Building Authority, Düsseldorf "The jury argues that our current construction projects must not fall short of this standard."
