N_AS / Neue Architekturschule Siegen

Exhibition at the Weissenhof Architecture Gallery

By transforming a former printing house in downtown Siegen into a teaching, learning, and studio facility, the Department of Architecture at the University of Siegen articulates far more than a change of location. The Neue Architekturschule Siegen understands architecture as a social practice that not only shapes transformation but actively produces it. The project thus becomes a testing ground for an architectural pedagogy that makes its own institutional environment the subject of design inquiry. This approach was grounded in the conviction that the challenges of our time cannot be answered by merely following established procedures.

The Neue Architekturschule Siegen positions itself as part of a broader discourse on the future of architectural education, and it tests this vision concretely on-site through the act of transformation. Rather than remaining theoretical, it became the catalyst for numerous initiatives and new formats—including the Circular Bar, Fusion Lab, Innovation Campus, the Repair and Care Service at the 2023 Biennial, Spatial Mutations, and Intendere—Universities of the Streets—bringing together students, educators, the urban community, and regional partners.

The exhibition offers a glimpse into the workings of the Neue Architekturschule Siegen as it takes shape. Fragments of plans and situations sketch an idea still in formation and in process—unfinished, transformative, and circumstantial.
