Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize 2024
Winners were announced
The Bavarian branch of the Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla) announced the winners of the 2024 Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize at the award ceremony held as part of the Kirchheim State Garden Show: First prize in 2024 goes to the Oberwiesenfeldpark project in Munich (plan author: mahl gebhard konzepte, Munich) – a successful symbiosis of play, sport and nature conservation. The jury praised the successful integration of nature conservation compensation areas and measures for biotope networking, which not only make the park a diverse recreational area for residents and visitors, but also create habitats for numerous insects and butterflies such as the Idas blue butterfly.
In addition, prizes were awarded in various categories, including a new audience award this year: The winner in the landscape planning and landscape development category is the new Wegkapelle chapel in the Waldnaabauen Tirschenreuth by Brückner & Brückner Architekten GmbH, Tirschenreuth | Würzburg and Stadt Land Fanck Landschaftsarchitektur und Ökologie, Tirschenreuth. In the category of plant use and biodiversity, the prize went to Nordpark III Plattling – Landscape Park with Campus Area Plattling by BEM Burkhardt | Engelmayer | Mendel Landscape Architects Urban Planners. The winner in the category of Building in Existing Contexts and Circular Economy is the renovation of the Anette Kolb Anlage Nuremberg by the firm adlerolesch (Nuremberg | Munich), which also received the Audience Award. In the category Open Spaces for People, Atelier Loidl Landschaftsarchitekten Berlin was honoured for the Lindau Citizens' Park in Lindau on Lake Constance. The category Experimental Landscape Architecture and Building in Detail was won by LATZ+PARTNER LandschaftsArchitektur Stadtplanung with the Karoline Goldhofer Day Care Centre in Memmingen.
The award recognises projects and plans in Bavaria that stand out for their innovative, sustainable and climate-friendly outdoor and landscape spaces of high quality, both in new developments and existing buildings. The bdla Bayern also expressly invites the younger generation of planners to take part in the competition in order to promote their professional ideals and visions. Doris Grabner, chair of the 2024 jury and responsible board member of bdla bayern, comments: "Our discipline must continue to meet many demands, but it must also communicate a wide range of content and promote understanding and awareness of the need to preserve our natural resources. These are all declared goals of the Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize, which this time is moving even closer to the people, i.e. all potential users, with a public vote. True to the motto: Planning – for people!" The competition takes place every two years; the next competition is scheduled for January 2026.
