Grand gesture
The panoramic glazing offers the best views of the countryside
The single-family house with two full storeys, a staggered storey and an underground garage by SKAI Siemer Kramer Architekten Ingenieure picks up on the context of the existing buildings in the neighborhood in terms of storeys and volume. With its design language and high-quality appearance, the building fits in very well with the villa-like building tradition of the former country house suburb of Lokstedt. The villa impresses with its exciting structure, which combines the rather closed clinker brick façade with the elegantly curved, glass panorama façade.
The materiality of the exterior walls follows this design idea. The perforated façade to the north, east and west features a dark clinker brick in a long format, which makes the geometries of the wall and window surfaces clearly legible thanks to the contrast between light and dark. The panoramic glazing, on the other hand, opens to the south with a grand gesture. It is designed as a mullion and transom façade and is framed by white, solid ceiling and wall panels. The staggered storey is plastered white all around and is visually restrained.
As soon as you enter the house on the north side, the view opens up across the hallway and living area to the glass façade facing the garden. The interior is spacious and bright across all floors. Beautiful whitewashed oak floorboards make the lounges warm and cozy. The living and dining area is openly connected to the kitchen and is two-storey in parts, so that the curved glass façade offers full-height views. Two sliding doors lead out onto the spacious terrace. The transition from inside to outside is seamless. On very sunny days, the external sun protection can be lowered. If desired, a one-piece curtain can be drawn around the curves of the glass façade from the inside, providing protection from prying eyes. In winter, the family enjoys spending cozy evenings in front of the fireplace in the living area.
The building is accessed vertically via a staircase with a sculpturally shaped banister. A large band of windows on the landing side of the staircase makes it visible from the outside as well. The children's rooms with their own bathrooms are mainly located on the second floor. The gallery allows direct visual contact with the dining area and links the two floors together. The parents' rooms are located on the top floor. Their bedroom with a spacious roof terrace in front is oriented towards the garden and echoes the curved glass façade.
