Encounters at eye level
An insurance company also reflects its philosophy in its new building
The very fact that AOK Rheinland/Hamburg calls itself a "health insurance fund" shows the change in the healthcare sector. It is not just about getting well, but also about prevention and proximity to the insured, reflecting the entire spectrum of society. The design office kplus konzept always had this in mind when it developed a new branch concept for the Duisburg-Hamborn location for the healthcare provider. The focus: the service and feel-good character.
The identity-forming forest green of the healthcare provider, which is associated with nature, life and happiness, was combined with warm wood accents. Wooden floors, wall coverings and furniture in combination with green plants create a homely, friendly welcoming atmosphere. The reception counter with the wall of real plants behind it - the point of contact for up to 550 customers a day - is reminiscent of a hotel reception desk. A large open waiting area with a tree with a seating platform, individual armchairs and side tables invites visitors to linger. Visitors can bridge the waiting time with exercise and infotainment at a "health station". General consultations are held in the open space with a multifunctional coffee point, counter and bar stools, where various meeting scenarios provide just the right atmosphere. The "consultation space" is designed for medium-complex consultations and is also used as a "health marketplace". Mobile, foldable and stackable furniture and flexible technical equipment ensure that there is space for up to 100 people. Soundproofed, fully shielded consultation boxes were created for sensitive meetings, such as the "living room" with a sofa and technical equipment for mobile working on the Surface. Mobile work equipment was included in the planning for maximum flexibility.
Health and sustainability were a top priority right from the start. When it came to building materials, attention was paid to regional origin wherever possible, as well as ecological and resource-efficient production and sound insulation, for example through multi-layer felt panels and acoustically effective curtains. When it came to furnishings and materials, preference was given to products with the relevant test and environmental labels such as the Blue Angel. The selection criteria were freedom from harmful substances, emissions and durability. For example, felt recycled from PET bottles was used, as were the Pod Privacy Chairs by designer Benjamin Hubert. The AOK office opened its doors on Architecture Day, June 18-19.
