14 Floors Above Berlin

Studio 14 at rbb – Where Broadcasting Meets Event Hosting and Fine Dining

The conference centre on the 14th floor of rbb's television centre in Charlottenburg has been transformed into Studio 14 – the rbb Rooftop Lounge. Henning Larsen, the Copenhagen-headquartered Danish architecture firm with offices worldwide, was commissioned for the redesign. Their creative vision draws inspiration from the rbb logo and its signature red colour. The result: a fully equipped broadcast studio that doubles as a restaurant perched above the Berlin skyline – complete with breathtaking panoramic views.

The space transforms seamlessly for any occasion: live events, TV and radio recordings – with or without audience. A comprehensive technical infrastructure includes professional media control, sound reinforcement, camera and video systems, broadcast networks, stage technology, and theatrical lighting. During events, the stage accommodates performances with full audio and lighting support. For dining-only occasions, sliding panels conceal the media wall, shifting the atmosphere from studio to intimate lounge. Throughout, the space maintains an honest, contemporary character – a working studio with genuine hospitality. Flexible furnishings adapt to accommodate different seating configurations, ensuring the space suits each event perfectly.

The rbb logo anchors the interior design concept. Its geometric forms and colours have evolved into a sophisticated corporate identity pattern woven throughout the space in various materials – yet never heavy-handed. Aligned with the "watch local" philosophy, the lounge celebrates rbb and Berlin's diversity through carefully calibrated colour gradations. Distinctive rbb red plays against blues, greys, browns, and blacks, creating visual depth and sophistication. Henning Larsen oversaw the full renovation in consultation with heritage authorities, designed the spatial architecture and custom joinery, curated the movable furnishings, and coordinated all building and media systems. The venue quickly gained traction with diners after opening – only to temporarily close due to pandemic restrictions shortly after launch.
