Elegant & Welcoming

A passive house standard hotel that merges cosmopolitan flair with intimate, inviting spaces

Bahnstadt in Heidelberg represents Europe's largest district built to passive house standards. Here stands the Atlantic Hotel Heidelberg, an energy-efficient and sustainably designed landmark that is, to our knowledge, among the world's first high-rise hotels to achieve passive house certification. Across 15 floors, the hotel offers 310 rooms and suites, eight event spaces, a 350 m² ballroom, extensive dining facilities including a restaurant and rooftop bar on the 13th floor, plus fitness and sauna amenities and underground parking.

The developers entrusted the Brumann office with designing and executing the room concepts and suites. Their approach prioritizes intimate retreats without compromising on comfort. Each room showcases a carefully balanced palette—warm natural tones paired with subtle greys and greens, accented by light oak furnishings. "Every detail, from the craftsmanship to the materials, creates an elegantly inviting atmosphere that feels like a home away from home," explains the design team of Doris Nothers, Alexandra Pfeifer, and Helene Nußbaum. The 105 m² Grand Suite on the 10th floor impresses with its generous living and meeting area, complete with fireplace and expansive seating, plus an integrated meeting table with wall-mounted display. Beyond the bedroom and adjoining dressing room, guests enjoy access to a private kitchenette. Dark stained oak, refined wall treatments, brass and black steel metalwork, dark chrome accents, backlit glass elements, veined stone surfaces, and cognac-toned leather seating combine to create an unmistakably luxurious experience.

Munich-based Olufemi Moser designed the interior concept for public spaces. Working closely with Brumann, they developed and executed the plans—including the smokers' lounge and fitness and sauna facilities as integrated elements of the overall vision. "To properly serve our international clientele, we embraced a cosmopolitan aesthetic that would hold its own in any major city. We've layered in the hallmarks of a four-star superior hotel—quality, comfort, and attentive service—as standards throughout," says architect Christian Olufemi. The result: guests can unwind in elegant style at the Seafood Grill restaurant with its bar and 15th-floor rooftop terrace.
