Always nice and long
Privacy screens and lines of sight combine to form a single unit in this house
Triangular, square, wide, long or narrow - the layout of building plots can vary greatly. However, this does not determine how the house built on it will look. The positioning is determined not only by the shape of the plot, but also by the development plan, the necessary distances and, of course, the wishes of the building family. Transforming these into living spaces depends not least on the creativity of the architecture professionals. Ideally, they don't simply design a house, but turn the space into an individually tailored room. In Langenfeld, a trio of three buildings was created in this way, lined up according to size on a flat, elongated plot. Wendling Architektur was responsible for the planning of the ensemble consisting of a small bicycle shed, a garage and the residential building.
The three structures are arranged in such a way that the bicycle shed and garage form a small forecourt in front of the entrance to the residential building. They shield it from the street and give it an almost natural privacy without having to forego lines of sight. The first floor in particular benefits from these, with the impressive open-plan living and dining area extending over its entire 14 m length.
A single-flight staircase leads to the upper floor, to the bedrooms and the bathroom. It is accompanied by a strip of windows in the upper area and is naturally lit during the day. As with this window, the arrangement of the openings on the façade indicates the functional areas. The main rooms are located behind the large-format windows on the narrow sides, while the side rooms are located behind narrow openings, particularly along the long sides.
Just as the alternation between more sheltered and more open areas can be seen, the choice of color and material also underlines the separation and simultaneous connection between inside and outside. Light-colored window frames sit in the gray pigmented, mineral paint. Their oak wood is continued in the floors, stairs and entrance door. Otherwise, white dominates the interior, with white-painted walls and white lacquered interior doors and fixtures, which, like the kitchen, are custom-made by a carpenter. An interior design that was made to be filled with life.
