Perfect fit
House with pool on a slope, individually tailored to the landscape and the residents
As the existing building on the hillside plot was not big enough for the new owners in terms of size and facilities, they decided to demolish it and build a new house. It was to be tailored entirely to the personal wishes of the family of four. Coast Architects designed two cubic and strictly geometric structures placed on top of each other as a basic framework. The room program and orientation are individually adapted to the surroundings and the requirements of the residents. With the recessed upper floor, a surrounding terrace has been created on the base floor, which, together with the slope-side ramp to the lower floor, offers the possibility of accessing all rooms from the outside. This generous architectural gesture also created barrier-free access to the house.
The lower floor with external garage entrance and large entrance door forms the basis. The U-shaped children's and guest rooms and the associated bathrooms are accessed from the entrance area. All rooms open onto the garden via floor-to-ceiling windows. With doors set flush into the walls, the foyer presents itself as a windowless white cube. Several pieces from the clients' art collection hang here and set the stage for the heart of the room: the sculptural staircase made of white-painted metal. It literally draws you into the light-flooded upper floor. There, floor-to-ceiling windows provide an unobstructed view of the hillside garden with pool and the city. The living room can be opened up to the terrace via glazed sliding elements and to the side to the light-filled loggia recessed into the building structure. On the west side, opposite the living area, is the dining and kitchen area, which can also be extended by an outdoor space. The dining table, the open kitchen and the preparation kitchen with floor-to-ceiling windows offer plenty of space for residents and guests. The western terrace is not only a platform for an outdoor dining room, but also features a fireplace. Parallel to the open-plan living areas, the owners' private rooms are located behind an exposed concrete wall. The bedroom, dressing room and bathroom are designed to be open and merge into one another, creating an independent retreat for the parents. Exposed concrete, bright wall surfaces and classic oak parquet flooring, paired with the clear spatial layout and restrained choice of colors, create the framework for a homely, contemporary ambience. The diverse visual relationships between inside and outside, the interplay of open and closed elements and the sensitive, individually adapted interior design characterize the house and show how it was tailor-made for its residents.
An air-to-water heat pump supplies the underfloor heating and the pool with heat. Solar panels on the flat roof supply electricity for all the house's needs and the smart home system installed for automation.
