No empty promises

"6-Seen-Wedau" wants to positively change the future of housing and our cities

Living on the waterfront, close to the city center and central, yet quiet and surrounded by greenery, as well as space for every lifestyle and smart living concepts - sustainable and future-proof: what initially sounds like a loose string of almost everyday real estate advertising messages turns out to be nothing more than a promise for the future on closer inspection. "A promise that we will keep!" assures Bernd Wortmeyer, Managing Director of Duisburg's municipal housing association GEBAG.

GEBAG wants to shape the future of the city with its land development projects totaling over 120 hectares. One of the three core projects is located in the south of Duisburg, where all these visions are to become reality. Directly on the Sechs-Seen-Platte, one of the largest urban development projects in Germany is being built here on 60 hectares: "6-Seen-Wedau". A regionally significant residential area with around 3,000 residential units is to be built on the southern site of the former railroad repair works. The new district, which will offer a wide range of high-quality residential forms and types in the owner-occupied and rental segments, will be characterized by a high quality of life, combined with infrastructure, educational and childcare facilities and a variety of leisure opportunities in a direct waterside location. A total of four districts are being built on the former railroad site, each with a different design focus and varying individual architectural design. "However, we are paying attention to high quality standards as well as sustainable and visionary planning for all four districts," explains Bernd Wortmeyer. "'6-Seen-Wedau' is intended to be a model project with an impact beyond Duisburg's borders - which is why we have high expectations of the investors and their concepts who are developing '6-Seen-Wedau' together with us."

Marketing has been underway for two years - and has been quite successful: almost all marketing lots have already been allocated in two of the four neighborhoods. The application phase for the first three lots in the "Am Uferpark" quarter has just started. The most southerly of the four quarters will largely consist of a mixed-use development (detached houses and apartment buildings), connected to the public green space of the same name and with access to the water's edge. Investors interested in developing a lot between 3,400 and just under 12,000 m² can contact GEBAG's sales department by 30.6.2023:
