Architects, not Architecture
Event series stops in Stuttgart on June 22
On Tuesday, June 11, the prestigious "Architects, not Architecture" event series comes to Stuttgart's Theaterhaus T (Siemensstrasse 11) at 7 p.m. These architects will share their personal journeys and pivotal creative moments—but with one key rule: as always with "AnA," no discussion of their projects is allowed:
– Elke Reichel, Reichel Schlaier Architects
– Martin Rauch, Lehm Ton Erde
– Shirin Brückner
Elke Reichel, Dipl.-Ing., was born in Marienberg in 1975 and is a founding partner of REICHEL SCHLAIER ARCHITEKTEN in Stuttgart. She studied at the Technical University of Dresden and the Mackintosh School of Architecture at the Glasgow School of Art. After graduation, she spent eight years at Behnisch Architekten, where she served as project director for the OZEANEUM Stralsund. In 2009, she established her own practice, which merged with Peter Schlaier's in 2011 to form REICHEL SCHLAIER ARCHITEKTEN. From 2013 to 2019, she served on the executive board of the BDA (Association of German Architects). Today, she sits on the design advisory board for the City of Freiburg and the planning commission for the Spinelli-Areal development in Mannheim. Since 2021, she has held a professorship in design and building typology at the Technical University of Darmstadt.
Internationally recognized as a pioneer in rammed earth construction, Martin Rauch founded and directs Lehm Ton Erde (LTE) in Schlins, Austria. He established the company in 1984, initially as a ceramics and clay building materials manufacturer, before founding Lehm Ton Erde Baukunst in 1999. The studio and operations center, built in 1990, showcase his extensive knowledge of earth construction methods. Over more than 35 years, Rauch and LTE have realized over 100 projects worldwide, published three books, and driven industry innovation in rammed earth design. His work has earned numerous accolades, including the 2011 Holcim Award Morocco, the 2012 Red Dot Design Award, the 2021 New European Bauhaus Prize, and the 2022 Global Award for Sustainable Architecture. Since 2010, he has served as honorary professor of the UNESCO Chair in Earthen Architecture, Building Cultures and Sustainable Development, and was a visiting lecturer at ETH Zurich from 2014 to 2016.
Born in Baghdad in 1967, Shirin Frangoul-Brückner is a founding partner and managing director of ATELIER BRÜCKNER, an internationally operating firm specializing in scenography and exhibition design. The studio transforms content and messaging into narrative architectures for museums, brands, and exhibitions—creating immersive experiences that extend visitor engagement and deepen connection with the material. ATELIER BRÜCKNER operates globally with 130 staff across locations in Stuttgart and Seoul. Recent landmark projects include the Museum of the Future in Dubai and the Natural History Museum in Oslo. The Grand Egyptian Museum, featuring the Tutankhamun Gallery, represents a career-defining achievement and marks another milestone in the Stuttgart-based designer's distinguished portfolio. Her driving philosophy: "Making the impossible possible."
