Bridges and More
Photography Exhibition at the Baukunstarchiv NRW
Bridges rank among the most striking infrastructure structures—yet many are facing an uncertain future today. Beginning April 17, the Baukunstarchiv NRW presents the exhibition "Bridges and More," placing the spotlight on exceptional bridge engineering. Prof. Cengiz Dicleli has spent years documenting bridge structures through photography, particularly works by Ulrich Finsterwalder, bridge director Herbert Schambeck, and architect Gerd Lohmer.
In the exhibition "Bridges and More," Dicleli primarily showcases black-and-white photographs. Surrounding elements such as traffic signs, overhead lines, and people have been removed to present the structures as purely as possible, reflecting their original aesthetic. Through this exhibition, the Baukunstarchiv NRW aims to highlight the urgent threat facing many bridges and encourage public dialogue. At the same time, the exhibition honors these bridges as architectural achievements and celebrates the life's work of the featured engineers and architects. Bridges, in particular, often exemplify the close collaboration between architecture and structural engineering disciplines.
