100,000 visitors in six months
Reinhard Ernst Museum breaks visitor records in inaugural year
The Reinhard Ernst Museum (mre) achieved a remarkable milestone in just six months: since opening in June 2024, it has welcomed 100,000 visitors. Art and design enthusiasts from 20 countries traveled to Wiesbaden to experience the architectural masterpiece designed by Japanese Pritzker Prize laureate Fumihiko Maki (1928–1924), as well as abstract masterworks from the Reinhard Ernst Collection. Over the past 25 weeks, the museum has welcomed an average of 1,200 visitors on weekends alone. Since opening, the mre has hosted 1,544 guided tours, engaging more than 18,000 visitors.
"This extraordinary achievement makes my wife and me incredibly happy," says museum founder and art collector Reinhard Ernst. "This museum is the realization of our deepest passion. Reaching this remarkable visitor milestone in just over six months tells us that every effort was worthwhile. We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring our vision to life."
Dr. Oliver Kornhoff, Director of the Reinhard Ernst Museum: "This opening year success is a tremendous source of pride for my team and me—and it fuels our ambition for 2025. We're building on this momentum with two major exhibitions dedicated to Helen Frankenthaler. Reinhard Ernst has assembled the world's largest private collection of her work, with nearly fifty pieces. Beginning in March, our exhibition Helen Frankenthaler: Move and Make will unveil the artist's innovative vision on an unprecedented scale: large-format works spanning four decades will fill four gallery spaces at the mre. Frankenthaler's practice embodies relentless experimentation and fearless risk-taking—an art that refuses to be confined. Her creative methodology, her making, redefines what it means to be an artist in our time. Her distinctive approach to color and material continues to inspire artists across generations. The second part of our Frankenthaler exhibition year directly examines how her artistic legacy remains vital today."
