Erich Mendelsohn Prize 2026
Deadline for submissions for the Backstein Architecture Award extended
The deadline for entries for the 2026 Erich Mendelsohn Prize has been extended by four weeks. Entries can now be submitted until 31 May.
The ‘Building with Brick’ initiative is responding to feedback from architectural firms which have not yet been able to finalise their submissions due to heavy workloads or outstanding project documentation. “It is important to us that all projects have the opportunity to be submitted with thorough documentation. We are therefore granting additional time,” the initiative stated. An independent expert jury will convene in Berlin in early July to evaluate the submitted entries.
The 2026 Erich Mendelsohn Prize for Brick Architecture will be awarded in the following categories:
• Residential construction/multi-storey residential
buildings• Public buildings, leisure and sport•
Office and commercial

In addition, further awards will be presented for:

In collaboration with DETAIL, the Newcomer Award is a special prize for emerging architects and students. As usual, entry is free for newcomers.
Personal support is available to all participants and interested parties: should any questions or issues arise during the submission process, architects can contact the ‘Building with Brick’ initiative by emailing info@erich-mendelsohn-preis.com or by calling 02 51 / 9 79 17-640.
