Producing Designers
Pop-up Store at stilwerk Hamburg
In April, stilwerk Hamburg becomes a stage for independent design: Eleven design manufacturers showcase furniture, lighting, porcelain, and interior objects—handcrafted, distinctly conceived, and far removed from the mainstream. From April 1 to May 2, 2026, these "producing designers" present their work at stilwerk Hamburg (Große Elbstraße 68). On view are collections and individual pieces that are rare finds and available for purchase on-site. The exhibition is complemented by talks, workshops, and networking events that foster dialogue between designers, industry professionals, and visitors. The opening kicks off with a pre-opening reception on April 1 featuring drinks, DJ, and guests from the interior design scene.
The "producing designers" unite eleven manufacturers from Berlin, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, and Padborg (Denmark). Together, they present their position at stilwerk: design that emerges from their own production and consciously distances itself from standardized market logic. On the exhibition floor, different approaches and materials converge: award-winning furniture, experimental lighting, contemporary porcelain, distinctive one-of-a-kind pieces, and works created through 3D printing. Each object embodies craftsmanship, design clarity, and the conviction that things can be conceived differently. Visitors can experience these works directly—and acquire them through personal contact with the designers themselves.
The exhibition is accompanied by an open program of panel discussions, workshops, and networking evenings. At its core is dialogue, insights into design processes, and current questions surrounding design, production, and the market. Over the course of April, a vibrant space emerges for conversations, new perspectives, and connections between the design community, media, and audiences. With their presence at stilwerk, the producing designers make a deliberate statement: for enduring design, for craftsmanship, and for independent production beyond the mass market.
Opening Program Highlights:
Laura Rohloff, director of Design Zentrum Hamburg, welcomes guests. Bettina Schön of media partner Cube Magazine moderates a panel discussion with prominent guests: "Independent Labels in Times of Mainstream and Mass Market." Following the talk, there will be a preview tour and networking in a relaxed atmosphere.
